The Diet must be convoked within 30 days after the election.
In case of emergency, the Cabinet may convoke an emergency session of the House of Councillors. When the House of Representatives is dissolved, a general election must be held within 40 days. If the House of Representatives is dissolved, the House of Councillors is closed at the same time. |
