The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; truth isn't. I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt. The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read. A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes. Truth is stranger than fiction. |

gptkbp:quote |
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. War is hell. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't said. Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. The secret of getting ahead is getting started. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything. The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; truth isn't. The trouble is not in dying for a friend, but in finding a friend worth dying for. The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read. The most interesting information comes from children, for they tell all they know and then stop. A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes. It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress. The worst loneliness is to not be comfortable with yourself. Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it. History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme. I am not an American, I am the American. Man is the only animal that blushes. Or needs to. Peace is the absence of all opposition to us. I never let my schooling interfere with my education. The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant. Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen. The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter. The government is merely a reflection of the people. The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. The best way to keep your friends is not to give them away. |
