The Battle of Maskin was a decisive engagement in 691 CE during the Second Fitna in which the Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik’s forces defeated those of the rival claimant Mus‘ab ibn al-Zubayr, consolidating Umayyad control over Iraq.
