The Ako Incident (1701–1703) was a famous samurai vendetta in early Edo-period Japan in which the masterless retainers of Lord Asano Naganori avenged his forced seppuku by killing the court official Kira Yoshinaka, later celebrated in legend as the story of the Forty-seven Ronin.
